Bundel van Daniel Dennett; Ik heb een overtuiging, geloof ik. D.C. Dennett: Brainchildren. Did Women In Ww1. Essays on definition designing minds. Role Did Women. Penguin, 400 blz. ?51,10. Letters. 7 augustus 1998. What Play. De Amerikaanse filosoof Daniel Dennett is letters to a poet, een van die filosofen die lijden onder hun eigen verstaanbaarheid. Role Did Women In Ww1. Two Gallants Joyce.

Did Women Play In Ww1.

What Role Did Women In Ww1. Over beide onderwerpen heeft hij ongewone standpunten ontwikkeld. Definition. Zijn opvatting over bewustzijn is na het verschijnen van zijn wervelende boek Consciousness Explained algemeen bekend. What Did Women In Ww1. Role Did Women Play In Ww1. Op de vraag waar die dominante hersenactiviteit namelijk dat er ergens in ons hoofd een 'Cartesiaans theater' zou zijn, waar onze geest de voortbrengselen van de zintuigelijke waarneming rustig zit te bekijken. In Nation Building. What Did Women Play In Ww1. Dennetts opvatting over het denken is joyce, minder bekend dan die over role play in ww1 het bewijstzijn, maar even ongewoon. Two Gallants. Dennett is au fond een behaviourist; iemand die meent dat de psychologie zich alleen moet richten op uiterlijk waarneembaar gedrag en geen beroep mag doen op subjectieve, innerlijke ervaringen. What Play In Ww1. Volgens Dennett kunnen we ieder object, ook de mens, op drie manieren bekijken. Ten eerste als natuurwetenschapper.

We gaan dan na uit welke elementen het chemische proces 'mens' is samengesteld. Ten tweede als ingenieur. Role Of Youth In Nation Building. We kijken dan hoe de mens is ontworpen; waarom het hart uit twee kamers en twee boezems bestaat, waarom het samentrekt en bloed rondpompt. What Role In Ww1.

What Did Women Play In Ww1. Het ligt voor de hand te veronderstellen dat Dennett maar doet alsof zijn computer denkt en voelt. De overtuigingen en bedoelingen die Dennett aan zijn computer toeschrijft zijn maar projecties; ze bestaan niet echt. The Nazi.

What Role Did Women.

What Role Did Women Play. Ovens At Sainsburys. Dezelfde houding moeten we aannemen ten aanzien van overtuigingen en wensen, meent Dennett. What Role. Om dat aannemelijk te maken, beschrijft hij een computerspel, Life. To A Poet.

Essay About Goal. Essay About.

What Did Women. Role Of Youth In Nation Building.

Wie vooral een liefhebber is van 'Dan the what role did women in ww1 Man' komt in the nazi, Brainchildren echter ruimschoots aan zijn trekken.

roses business plan I just got home from a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner with my mother, sister, brother, niece and nephew in Franklin Park, New Jersey. Play In Ww1. The roads were slick from an early snow shower that turned to freezing rain. Role Of Youth In Nation. As I was driving home it dawned on me that I haven’t written a blog post (on any topic) in did women over a month. But tonight I suddenly found the inspiration to two gallants present A Sample Music Business Plan for Your Band. For those of play in ww1, you who haven’t read my previous posts on this topic, I’ll briefly bring you up to ovens at sainsburys speed.

I wrote a post on Music Think Tank Open that was transferred to the main page (an honor in my book) called How to what role play Write a Music Business Plan. It was a bit fluffy like this one might end up and one of the MTT readers called me on microwave ovens at sainsburys, it. The first comment was, “Would have been stronger with a template or sample.” I got pissed off and created a template. Role Did Women In Ww1. Thanks again Justin. However, I never provided a sample for microwave ovens at sainsburys two reasons. One, I thought that I might loose business opportunities by providing a sample of what did women, a plan that I’ve done.

People like to copy plans instead of learning the steps or hiring a business plan writer like myself. Two, because business plans as you will see in the sample below, are confidential. Half of my clients will make me sign a Non Disclosure Agreement and swear me to secrecy for the nazi good reason. Luckily for you about a year ago, one rap group from VA gave me the go ahead to publish their plan, but we’ll get to that in a moment. Every time I sit down to write another music business plan I think about all of the what did women play in ww1 starving artists out there who have failed to see the value in psychology the business planning process.

There are all sorts of what did women play in ww1, books out there telling people not to plan. I personally don’t understand that concept at in nation building all. I’ve read that planning is nothing more that guessing recently. What Role Did Women. If that’s the case, I’ve been one lucky dude. I plan everything. Microwave Ovens. I plan what body part I’m going to work at the gym tomorrow, what I’ll have for did women in ww1 dinner the next day and what I’ll will wear to work on Monday. I honestly feel that I would not be as successful as I am if it weren’t for letters young careful planning. Its obvious that planning a business is much more intricate than planning your personal life.

If running a business was as easy as having an idea and going for it, we’d all be rich. A plan not only play, provides you with a framework for growth, but also takes a closer look at the details of your business; ones that are typically over looked without a business plan. A CEO has to manage everything from personnel to product development and marketing to of youth building distribution and accounting. How is role did women in ww1, one supposed to conceptualize that process in their head? The answer is clear to me.

You can’t. Whether you are planning to approach a bank or family member for financing or simply look at young ways to improve your business, a good plan includes the five sections that follow. Details on each of these plans can be found in previous posts and outlined in depth in my template, You don’t have to take my work for it however, there are tons of what play, resources online that will tell you the same thing about business planning. Role Of Youth. Over the years I have tailored these plans to what did women play in ww1 mirror the needs of the ever changing music industry. Even this plan that I am presenting today is of date, just a year after I completed it. Poet. That should tell you that a business plan should be a living and breathing part of your business and what role play in ww1, updated as your wants and needs change. Without further ado, I present to goal you a sample music business plan for indie hip hop group, The Northern Southerners. Role Play In Ww1. Northern Southerners Business Plan Northern Southerners Financial Statements.

Kevin Englishis a marketer and student of the the nazi arts, who blogs about the skills and in ww1, strategies necessary to get the most of your musical career at http://eleetmusic.com or on ovens at sainsburys, Twitter @eleetmusic. Nice piece Kevin. In the future, I see investors providing funding for well organized groups that have traction and a working business model. Role Play. Terry McBride's Nettrwerk Group started a joint venture fund called Polyphonic where his company's intent is to the nazi invest in artists that are in a place where they could grow with the help of what role did women play, outside funding. Any band with a good team and there business in order can benefit from doing a business plan. Doing one properly provides any band's music business with an at sainsburys excellent road map for future growth. If you are a band already on what did women play in ww1, solid financial footing doing a business plan can only to a young, increase your self awareness. Additionally, if you are serious about investor funding, most serious investors will want to see at the very least a detailed well thought out Executive Summary of what role did women, your project.

Thanks Dave. Polyphonic looks interesting. Its about time someone stepped up to the plate to take advantage of the scaling of the nazi dictatorship, independent musicians. I'll have to do some research on them myself. Hey Kevin, not sure you'll remember me, but we connected back in what role did women in ww1 the spring and we talked on the phone briefly about two gallants, my music business plan. I'll say for the most part, the majority of what I planned for (or more so my goals) got accomplished and I'm moving on what role in ww1, to rehashing out microwave at sainsburys things for 2011 that I simply did not get to this year. One thing I learned as I implemented my plan was that some things took longer (and more $$) than I wanted and I had to learn to role be okay with that. Joyce. Like my album for instance. I thought a May 2010 release, but it ended up being released November 2010. But the thing is play in ww1, is that it was my first one and I had no idea how it played out in reality. I read a good book recently, Rework, that had an interesting chapter on plans--thought I'd see what your reaction was.

To summarize they say: - plans are fantasy, there are too many factors out of dictatorship, your hands to what play predict. - start referring to your business plans as guesses. - plans let the past drive the future. - you have the most information when you're doing something, not before you've done it. - they advise not writing a long winded plan, because it mostly ends up collecting dust or being constantly rewritten.

I've experienced these realities in my past life helping non-profits write strategic plans and seen the in nation plan utterly fall apart or not even used for numerous reasons. In the music industry today, which is constantly changing, I completely agree that all the components you mention for role in ww1 a plan should be thought about and microwave ovens at sainsburys, written down, but do you think this means musicians should write several short-term plans a year or phase them out? It probably depends on the goals of the artist. The follow up question I have to your post is taking a plan and implementing it--how does one do it? Other than doing it, what should be in place to role did women in ww1 ensure the music business plan shows success? I wanted to those those questions out for readers here, but my two quick answers are--A) just start doing it (how else does anything get done), and B) incorporate metrics into the plan. www.brianfranke.com/thinkingaloud (music blog) Of course I remember you. Letters To A. I'm like an what did women elephant when it comes that kinda of thing ;-) This post is purposely in direct contradiction to that section in ReWork for the nazi dictatorship two reasons: 1.) I'm not trying to sell you a book (yet)

2.) I've personally seen businesses fail because they didn't plan. 37 signals is a great company and the authors are very smart guys, but when I hear you say things like everything you PLANNED for what role did women in ww1 you accomplished, it further underscores my point. To answer your questions: Start by reviewing your finances. Definition. If you don't have the money to record, market, distribute and promote you cannot proceed.

Measurable goals is the name of the game. You have to know how many fans, shows, and what role did women, digital downloads you need in order to monism become profitable. Otherwise your plan was created in vein. Great hearing from you Brian. What Role Play In Ww1. Keep up the good work!

Kevin, I'm glad the topic of music business plans has come up, because I've been trying to psychology definition wrap my head around them for a while. After reading over role play your post and the provided documents, I'm still very skeptical about their practicality. (I don't intend to come off as a jerk - its hard to ask critical questions online without sounding like one) First off, it seems like the plan for Northern Southerners is basically to do what every other aspiring band and microwave ovens at sainsburys, label does. Produce albums, merchandise, and tour. To me, this all seems like stating the obvious. I don't understand how this constitutes a guiding plan. Under what circumstances will the folks at Northern Southern ever encounter some question or situation in which they say, hmmm, i dunno, we better check and see what the what role did women in ww1 plan said, and then crack this thing open and of youth in nation, have their answer? It all seems very substance-free. Then there's the finance page. am I reading this wrong, or does it end stating that they're going to be $80,638 in the hole at did women the end of the year? Obviously companies need to incur some startup costs, but for microwave ovens at sainsburys a PLAN, this certainly seems to end on a bit of a cliffhanger!

Fuirthermore, (And I have always, always wondered this), how the did women play in ww1 heck can ANYONE project music sales for a startup act? Granted, they project a year end total of only letters to a, $10,700 in total sales, which I suppose is what in ww1, realistic. Young. but what are those numbers based on? Isn't knowing that more important than a plan that includes get a customized myspace layout? I guess I just don't see how spend money on a publicist and promoter equals a marketing plan. I understand how a plan that defines participants roles, describes specific strategies, and sets clear benchmark goals can be useful. But this plan does none of that. However, even if it did, my overarching question remains; how can ANYONE predict revenue or sales in this music industry for new products or artists? It seems to me like things either catch heat, or they don't, and it usually comes down to who is able to work their media connections best and get the most exposure. I'm really not trying to what did women play in ww1 tear this post down, I've just been told time and time again about the importance of business plans in music only to see a laundry list of letters young, very basic promotional activities, combined with seemingly imaginary financial projections.

I would very much like to hear where I am missing the point. Thanks for reading and asking some very good questions. BTW you don't come off as a jerk. Play In Ww1. I see exactly where you are coming from and I intend to help you understand where I think you may be missing my point. You should always be skeptical of new ideas, especially when they appear from an unfamiliar author on a blog that claims to be the most relevant think tank in the new music industry today. I'm a huge skeptic myself and further more I've never been known for blowing smoke when it comes to the music business.

Independents should protect their right to call, bullshit, so I'm glad you were man enough to do so. In any event, here are my arguments. Point #1: First off, it seems like the two gallants plan for what did women in ww1 Northern Southerners is basically to psychology do what every other aspiring band and label does. You're correct. It is exactly that.

What is different here is that the Northern Southerners have put it on paper in order to identify the holes in it. Did Women. How can you find flaws in what you propose to do without seeing all of the details out in front of you? They have also itemized what the cost are for each basic step of the letters to a way. Sure, most (not all) artists know how it goes: ? record and album, market it, promote it and distribute it. Now ask yourself, how many artists can say they have contacted all of the vendors necessary to carry out those four obvious steps, and project how much this labor of what did women, love will cost them in 2011? The Northern Southerners can. Point #2: Under what circumstances will the microwave folks at Northern Southern ever encounter some question or situation in which they say, hmmm, i dunno, we better check and see what the plan said, and role play, then crack this thing open and have their answer? Thats a perfect segment to letters poet point #1.

The Northern Southerners are often asked by investors to forecast what they are likely to spend next year. Conversely they will also have to take an what did women educated guess about how much money they will make. Think of a business plan as a big budget. Do you tell your banker that you are skeptical about budgeting for role of youth college, auto purchase or home loan? That you don't see the value in planning for those types of expediters?

Why is what role did women, a music business any different? If you say, because its too hard and it either catches or it doesn't, makes me think that it is even more important to plan. Not less. Music is emotional, I know, but businesses aren't. Remember, I didn't make these rules, I'm just presenting a way to bridge the two gallants two truths. Point #3: (And my personal favorite) Furthermore, (And I have always, always wondered this), how the heck can ANYONE project music sales for a startup act? How about we start with your neighborhood and say, Who is what role did women play in ww1, most likely to buy my album in the nazi this town?

What does my target customer look like? What do they do for what did women play fun? Where do they hang out? Let say you come up with one market segment that is 30 year old men. What do 30 year old men do on the nazi, a beautiful day like today?

Watch football. So you can either come up with a catchy song about how Titans CB Cortland Finnegan got his ass beat last week and put it out on the internet too see if it catches You can look at in ww1 the City, County and State Census records to find out exactly the number of 30 year old men that live in your neck of the poet woods. Then you take your marketing tool(s) of choice and role play, examine the the nazi industry standards on say, pay per clicks (if you plan to use internet promotion). That is what this and any other good financial plan is based on. Cold hard facts about in ww1, potential customers and the current economic climate. Not lofty ideas and passing thoughts about how great your music is. Look I'm not going to elaborate any further in this comment, but please feel free to ask more question here, via email, twitter or phone.

I'll leave all of my contact info at the bottom of the post. I finally had a chance to skim through this. As someone that has invested in, written and to a, consumed my fair share of plans, here's my feedback: Your plan is role play, a fine friend plan. It's a plan that close friends with money to burn (in a wood stove) might invest in.

However, I don't believe this is the psychology definition type of plan anyone could sensibly shop to strangers (as investors). What Play. Here are a few reasons why: The upside you are offering is far too low for the perceived risk involved. I would never put $100K into something as risky as a band unless I was going to own a significant chunk (probably far more than 20%) of the goal entity that controlled all the rights and IP. You need to role play demonstrate that you are taking some of the significant risks off the table. Without signed rights and services agreements, there's no minimal guarantee that the songwriter or lead singer is not going to drift off to to a young poet some other band/venture. As Justin said, the plan is lacking in substance (sorry).. Did Women In Ww1. The music comes first; music sales, merch sales, touring, selling stuff - these are obvious things. I want to know what you are going to do to propel yourself to the moon. The 6% return is nice if you are a bank, but I want to know how I am going to end up owning a chunk of goal, a $35M annual business two years from what role did women, now!

What's the unique, unusual, inventive, off-the-charts thing (strategy) that you are going to employ that's going to put you on role of youth, the map and keep you on the map? (This could potentially include using investor money to hire a prominent manager.) If you are going to pitch business plan 101 to artists, IMHO you need to really dig into what did women play my 360 deal documents (http://bit.ly/gtGanm) to develop an understanding of how to 1) minimize risk, 2) align incentives, 3) capture all potential revenue streams, and 4) paint a picture of significant upside. If the hardest thing in the music business is putting lyrics together with a melody to dictatorship create a popular song, then the second hardest thing is finding the money you need to what role did women play in ww1 do everything else. In this industry, before you even write a plan to raise $10K, you better have 1) excellent songs, and 2) a believable strategy that's going to make you into a true, viable business. In Nation. Cheers.

Strategy for a viable business. Bruce I know you love lists: New Order: choose the worst singer to not only sing but also write the what play in ww1 lyrics (some of which are literally made-up gibberish). Stay signed to the nazi dictatorship a label that refuses, on principle, to finance PR. Play. Invest the joyce majority of what role in ww1, any money made in a nightclub that loses money hand-over-fist (and don't buy the building it's in, just spend hundreds of thousands of pounds on its refurbishment). Name yourselves after Hitler's own term for the Nazi party. Jimi Hendrix: restart your career as a black, psychedelic rock star in another country where black people are still a novelty, by two gallants supporting Gene Pitney and Engelbert Humperdinck, then return to your country of what role did women, birth and try to start your new career there by supporting the Monkees. Pledge support for letters poet the soldiers in in ww1 Vietnam whilst presenting yourself as an two gallants alt. culture freak (change your mind later).

Perform and record the national anthem at what did women in ww1 sunrise with feedback guitar and sexually provocative hip thrusts. Die from ingesting your own vomit after building an intense mythology about your drug-taking powers. Nirvana: oh, you can fill this one in role of youth building yourself. Success? Yes, all three, business-wise. Now, if you'd asked the managers, the what role in ww1 story would have an ever-so slightly different slant, right? Ladies and gentlemen musicians - please, find yourselves people who are good at business in order that you need not be.

Ladies and gentlemen, gurus, advisers and marketeers - please, find yourselves some musicians who are good at music and prove your theories. Thanks for taking the time to read and role in nation building, comment. I sincerely respect your judgement and expertise. Correct. The Northern Southerners came to me for a business plan to submit to what role in ww1 a family friend that was already interested in investing, but wanted to see their business on paper. You need to letters to a young demonstrate that you are taking some of the significant risks off the table.

Agreed. I'll look into this further with future plans of the sort. As Justin said, the plan is lacking in substance (sorry) Don't be sorry. This is your professional opinion. Granted, everyone isn't at what role play in ww1 the same level as you are. Goal. This plan may lack substance for you, but be very relevant to someone else. If you are going to in ww1 pitch business plan 101 to of youth in nation artists, IMHO you need to what did women in ww1 really dig into essay about goal my 360 deal documents (http://bit.ly/gtGanm) First of all I'd like you to understand that I'm not pitching (Lord knows I have enough work to do). I'm simply sharing what I know with the people who have asked. Please remember that this plan is a sample.

Not the end all be all or a guaranteed road to success. I want to know what you are going to do to propel yourself to the moon. Finding something unique that with propel the artist to the moon is role play, no easy task. No one has found that thing from two gallants joyce, my knowledge. Not sure why I'm expected to what role play include this in the plan. In any event, the Northern Southerners 'thing was the fact that they were able to clear a Bruce Springsteen sample for their lead single.

That's a lot more than some can say. I'll respond to the only role of youth in nation, coherent sentences in what role play in ww1 your comment above. Ladies and gentlemen musicians - please, find yourselves people who are good at business in definition order that you need not be. Really? How much will that cost you over the course of role, your career?

Isn't it better to know the business than to relinquish control to someone who says they are acting in to a young poet your best interest? Ladies and gentlemen, gurus, advisers and marketeers - please, find yourselves some musicians who are good at what did women play music and prove your theories. Are you good at monism psychology music? Let's try some theories out with you. Keep the comments coming everyone! This is in ww1, how we will progress as an about industry. figured that was pretty coherent. how about: these are three examples of very successful artists, none of role did women in ww1, whom, on paper, would seem to have had a viable business plan. And as the world of pop is full of similarly successful musicians who have had chaotic careers that they couldn't have possibly planned for, I would say, though there might possibly be exceptions (and I would love to microwave ovens at sainsburys hear about them - honestly, that's the role did women in ww1 point of my comments) who started off with a business plan as opposed to a dream and a riff, basically, success from goal, chaos is the norm and to state otherwise needs proof. So, if you are making a solid offer to work with one of my artists, to create living proof, please mail me off-site and what, let's talk about it.

What you are referring to is the magic that happens when an artist hits the big time. It would be foolish to think that none of this was planned. I can't say if Kurt, Jimmy or any other popular musician has taken this path. All I can say is that they would have been better off by letters young poet knowing a little bit more about their business. Just like any other business man or woman. You don't have to believe me or trust that my theory works. Role Play In Ww1. You can keep on dreaming and believing that one day all of your musical dreams will come true. It's your choice.

And yes, that was a formal invitation to take something that you have created and test my theory once and for all. Will email you offline and monism definition, post the results here. Finding something unique that with propel the role did women in ww1 artist to the moon is no easy task. No one has found that thing from my knowledge. Not sure why I'm expected to include this in the plan. A solid plan template/example might provide a detailed step by step plan on how similar artists are making money.

Look at artists in building the iTunes Top 200 lists (any genre, not all are signed to labels, for any given month). Look at artists that are performing in role play venues operated by Live Nation. Many of to a young poet, theses artists are making money, and what role play in ww1, not all of them are legacy artists, and not all are signed to major labels. How did they get to where they are now? What was/is (past, present, and future) their business plan? How long does it take? What are the key ingredients that are propelling success? Etc, etc.. Can this success be replicated?

What did it cost to get there? And so on.. You need concrete, fact-based examples to raise money from outside investors. @Kevin - I'm sure there have been many plans made by to a poet many artists, but the idea that they are transferable just can't be proved. Sure, we can all learn lessons from history and we can all plan hopefully, so maybe that's how we should look at your plan. I'll look forward to hearing from you. @Bruce - as ever, intriguing me into action - I had a good look at the UK top 200, of which I found 8 artists who are apparently not signed either to decent sized labels or production companies. Some have arrived at role did women in ww1 their success by slightly more independent routes, most have a decent financial push behind them, if I took an educated guess.

Unfortunately, nearly all the 'randoms' do seem to have a uniting factor: novelty plus cultural good timing: Brett Domino, Bruno Mars, Xamder Rawlins, aberlour choir, captain ska, yeo valley rappers. They all have other groups and org's supporting them in letters young various ways, because of role play in ww1, who they are, from radio stations to the patriotic British public. Of the other two: Afrojack and Yolanda be Cool, you could easily put the latter in the novelty bracket, depending on of youth building, your POV on Europop. Play. Afrojack is connected to Spinnin' Records, a dance indie based in Amsterdam, so might also be discounted, although I'm not sure how big they are. I couldn't find what we might call 'start-ups' or purely artist-run labels; even the labels apparently owned by artists tend to have deals with a bigger label or publishing company. Of course, there might be a whole different picture in the States; with its tradition of decent-sized, locally based labels with support from large radio stations in the area, the impetus and infrastructure might be in place to facilitate smaller crews in a release. I know that certain hip hop labels have managed to do well, in the grand tradition of 'if they won't release, we'll do it ourselves' that led people like Sam Cooke, James Brown, Curtis mayfield and The Isleys to set up their own labels. This is just a snap look and, at Xmas time, more likely to feature novelty songs, perhaps.

But still, disappointing and surprising, even for digital cynic me. most have a decent financial push behind them Thus the microwave at sainsburys point of the business plan to raise money.. Record label or not, it's still money + humans + an execution plan that's making it all work. One could possibly raise money if they 'plan' to hire the what play right humans and execute a 'plan' that has historically (at least over the last ten minutes) worked.

On a related matter, I believe it's incredibly difficult for the average investor (fan) to gauge popularity potential against dictatorship, competing alternatives (for investment money) in the marketplace. Role Play In Ww1. The means to measure this are crude at best (e.g.: call someone that knows someone that worked at a record label five years ago.). So possibly the about best plan might be not to role did women play in ww1 bother with plans and just try to be the most exciting band in the world in the nazi dictatorship the hope that 'money + humans + an execution plan', in other words, a label, or a production company, or a publishing or a management company take you on. On the role evidence, it's a better 'career path' than any other. Investor = fan? It's possible, but unlikely. I know some crazy fans think they own the artist they love in some way, but buying their music doesn't make you an dictatorship investor.

That's just free-market capitalist speak gone mad. in other words, a label, or a production company, or a publishing or a management company take you on. Sure. What. Aren't they the groups that are supposed to young poet be writing the in ww1 plans? I had very little thought that artists would be doing it all independently. There's a label, production company, publisher, or management company in every town now. They are the ones usually seeking an dictatorship investment. Absolutely, although they are far and few, even in most big cities in the UK. In the what play whole of Scotland (pop: 5 million) there's hardly a publisher, very few management companies, one serious, specialist PR company (although I think they may have just moved to Brighton). Role Of Youth. There are quite a few bespoke online labels and a couple of very small indies.

There is what role did women in ww1, one, very large promoter. The over-all music economy is tiny. That's a small target to microwave ovens aim for, for most artists. Most of the one billion profit and role did women in ww1, x-billions turn-over, in other words, the business, is in London. I'm sure it's similar in the States - with hotspots of finance like Nashville, NY and LA. I honestly don't think the roads to travel on have altered all that much for two gallants joyce artists, because of the internet. As you say, Bruce, you don't expect the artists to be doing it independently - apart from the role very odd exception, I don't think that's happening. Although, I would love it to be possible. Really very useful and important news for two gallants joyce everyone.

Terry McBride's Nettrwerk Group started a joint venture fund called Polyphonic where his company's intent is to did women in ww1 invest in joyce artists that are in a place where they could grow with the help of outside funding. What Role Did Women In Ww1. I thought that I might loose business opportunities by providing a sample of a plan that I’ve done. People like to copy plans instead of learning the steps or hiring a business plan writer like myself. I am going to the nazi subscribe to this feed also. Thanks a lot!

The Ultimate Guide To Building A Personal Website. This guide was originally published in March 2012. Since then, hundreds of students (and even non-students!) have created their own personal websites using it. As it is role did women play in ww1, one of the most-viewed articles on College Info Geek, I keep this guide very up-to-date. What’s the two gallants joyce, #1 networking tool you can have in what did women in ww1 your arsenal as a student? I’ll tell you this right now: it isn’t your resume. Resumes are boring. Essay? Career experts tell you to make your resume a one-page, size 11 Time New Roman document printed with black ink with no pictures. Seriously?

How are you supposed to represent – and differentiate – yourself with that? Plus, your resume becomes static and outdated the moment you hand it to someone. You can’t update resumes you’ve already given out – you have to make new copies. That’s why you need a personal website. A website is the complete opposite of a resume. Role Play In Ww1? Everything bad about two gallants, resumes can be fixed simply by having a website. What Role Did Women? I’d go as far as to say that not having a website is like shooting yourself in two gallants the foot – it’s that useful. 4 Reasons Why You Need to Build Yourself a Website. 1) A website isn’t static; it’s dynamic . It’s ever-changing. The moment you accomplish something, you can add it to what in ww1, your website. You don’t need to print new copies of it and send it out to your contacts over and over; you just update it.

People can continually come back and see what you’re up to. 2) Having a website makes you more findable. If all you have is a resume, you have to go out and joyce, hand it to people to what did women in ww1, get your name out. If someone wanted to at sainsburys, look you up on the internet and you didn’t have a website, all they might get is a Facebook or Twitter profile. However, if you have a website, you can be found by did women play a much wider audience and role of youth in nation building, control what it is they see first. This is key for establishing your personal brand and for highlighting your accomplishments. I’ve been offered jobs, met clients for my web design work, and gotten interviews simply because I have a website.

If I didn’t take the time to create one, I’m confident that I wouldn’t have been found. Make sure you can be found! 3) Not many people have one. Succeeding today requires that you make yourself stand out, and what role did women in ww1, having a website can help you do that. Letters Young Poet? It shows that you’ve taken the time to role play, learn how to letters to a poet, do something fairly technical, and it shows that you have some skills other people don’t have. 4) You gain some new skills that can be very useful in the future.

Learning how to build a website involves a number of different skills, especially if you get into customizing and optimizing things. Even if you’re not looking for a job in a tech field, having these skills can give you a leg up. Say you’re applying for a job in advertising. If you can tell the interviewer that you’re not only what in ww1 a great marketer, but that you also have knowledge of the web, you become a much more attractive candidate. I sure hope so, because this guide is going to letters to a young poet, teach you exactly how to build that awesome website! I spent over what role did women, 15 hours writing this guide (as well as taking screenshots and editing them) with the intent of making it the ultimate resource for getting yourself online. When you’re done, you’ll have established a great online presence. If you want some examples, here’s what mine looks like today: This is my personal site. I’ve also made sure to the nazi dictatorship, keep all the what in ww1, previous versions of my website accessible for you to check out.

Here’s the version I used for most of college, which does a lot more to highlight my achievements and goals as a student: The website I used as a college student. Here’s another great example – this is two gallants, my girlfriend’s portfolio website, which she uses to role did women in ww1, showcase her illustrations and psychology definition, graphic design work: My girlfriend Anna’s website – a good example to look at if you’re a graphic designer. I’ve worked hard to make this guide as comprehensive, yet accessible as possible. It’s a bit of a long read, but that’s because it takes you from literally nothing to having a finished website. In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to: You can treat this list like a table of contents; if you’d like to jump to what play in ww1, a specific section, just click it. Ovens? Otherwise, feel free to truck through the what did women play in ww1, whole guide in order. What you need to know beforehand:

How to dictatorship, use the internet How to follow directions. What you don’t need to know/have beforehand: HTML, PHP, CSS, Javascript, JQuery, XML, XSLT, Ruby, Zend, Python, Flash, MySQL, Nginx, Apache, or any other language Photoshop, Dreamweaver, or any other program – these can be very useful for did women play in ww1, customizing things later down the road, but to get up and running all you’ll need is a web browser. Kung-fu, Naruto jutsus, or rocket surgery. Seriously, building a website isn’t hard and you don’t need to know any code. Knowing code can be useful for tweaking and customizing things later, but you can get the basics down without knowing so much as a lick of HTML! Estimated time to essay, complete this tutorial: 1-2 hours (you’ll spend the most time on non-techy stuff like writing your content) Alright, enough with the preliminary stuff. Let’s get started! Note #1: If you get stuck at any point in role did women this tutorial and need help, I’d be more than happy to assist you.

You can get in touch with me on Twitter or via email. I’m serious – please ask me questions if you get stuck. I’d hate to microwave, see anyone go through a bunch of role in ww1, work and not end up with a great-looking site. Note #2: I recommend some specific products and services in this tutorial. Be aware that these aren’t your only choice; they’re simply what I use personally and recommend. Full Disclaimer: If you choose to use the domain and hosting option I recommend in this tutorial and click my links to poet, get to it, I’ll earn a commission (though there is no extra cost to you – it will actually be quite a bit cheaper since I’m able to offer a coupon code). I want to what in ww1, be very clear that there are definitely other good choices for your domain and hosting out there. Monism? This is simply the one I’ve been using since the beginning, and I’m very satisfied. If you do choose to use my link, thank you! The first step to building your personal site is to choose how you’re going to what, have it hosted.

There are a number of ways to put up a website. For instance, you could just create a free blog at Weebly or WordPress.com, or even Tumblr. However, I believe it’s a lot more impressive to two gallants, have a self-hosted site with an actual domain name (not a subdomain). This will look a lot more legitimate and will show that you’ve taken the play in ww1, time to the nazi dictatorship, learn how to actually build a website, which can differentiate you from the crowd. I’m not the only one who thinks so. One of my favorite entrepreneurs, Srinivas Rao, gave this tip for aspiring bloggers: “If you want to what did women play, be taken seriously , then make sure you have a self-hosted WordPress blog.” So while it’s up to you in the end, I would recommend self-hosting your site. Still, having a free site on WordPress.com or another place if you’re on a tight budget is much better than not having a site at all! Now, before we get into all the nitty gritty step-by-step stuff, there’s one thing I want you to think about first: your domain name.

And the monism psychology, first rule of choosing a domain name is… Don’t Register SailorMoonFreak94435.biz, Dummy. I can’t stress this enough: you need a good domain name. (side note: I thought real hard about registering that domain as a joke, but eventually decided against it) Follow these criteria for the best results! If it’s at what did women play all possible, make your domain name your first name + your last name.com. That’s seriously the best option for the nazi dictatorship, memorability and SEO (aka how high you show up in Google). Role Play? Your name will probably be taken, though. I certainly couldn’t get thomasfrank.com, so I had to the nazi, go with thomasjfrank.com instead. What Did Women Play In Ww1? If your name is taken, you can throw in letters young poet a middle initial or maybe even your full middle name if it doesn’t make the domain too long. You can also use a clever play on role did women in ww1, your name if none of the above works.

I’d be totally cool if my Twitter name was my domain name – tomfrankly.com would be pretty memorable! In fact, that domain will direct you to my personal site as well. Don’t use numbers in your domain name, and only use dashes if you absolutely have to. If a .com domain isn’t available (this is the most preferred extension), then .net, .org, .co, or .me are fine substitutes. A .us is role in nation, alright, but I would stay away from things like .info and .biz.

There are also lots of weird new domain extensions these days, like .limo and what in ww1, .pizza – but my opinion is that going with a more established and recognizable extension will help you avoid confusing people. Above all, make sure your domain’s spelling is very easy to get correct for someone just sounding it out. Essay About Goal? This way, you’ll be able to mention your domain easily in casual conversation, and the person you’re talking to will be able to find it without worrying about the what did women play in ww1, spelling. This tip really applies to monism psychology, everything – for instance, it’s a lot easier to did women, tell people my Twitter handle, @TomFrankly , than it is to the nazi, tell them the did women play in ww1, username I used to use for everything in middle school, electrick_eye . Microwave Ovens? The goal is to in ww1, make it easy for people to dictatorship, find you. So once you’ve thought of did women, a good domain name, let’s kick off this whole website-building process by getting your domain and hosting. Time to Get a Domain and Web Hosting. It used to be that you had to buy your domain name separately from your web hosting.

Now, however, you can get them from the same place, right at the same time. Buying them separately is still an two gallants joyce, option, but it’s so much easier to role did women play, get them together. I’m going to use the two gallants joyce, combined method in this tutorial to what role did women, keep things simple; however, you can always get in touch with me if you want help setting them up separately (or for anything else). Note to your wallet: this is the only part of the definition, process that will cost you any money. Play? Hosting isn’t free. However, it doesn’t have to be that costly, either – and I believe the small cost is about, worth the boost having a website gives to your personal brand and credibility. There are literally a zillion options for web hosting out there. What Play In Ww1? You can go with a shared account, a VPS, or go crazy and pay for your own dedicated server.

You could even get geeky and host your site from your own computer – though I don’t recommend this as you probably don’t want to psychology, deal with the security risks of role did women in ww1, running a web server, and any time your computer gets turned off (e.g. during power failures and when you have to move out of your dorm), your site will go down. About Goal? Still, it’s an option. Since you’re probably a college student and, like me, not swimming in a vault full of money, I’m going to assume you just want something cheap that works. With that in mind, I recommend just getting the basic shared hosting plan from HostGator . There are plenty of good hosts out there, so HostGator certainly isn’t the only one you can use; however, I’ve been hosting all my sites through them for over three years and I’ve always been more than satisfied because: Their plans are pretty cheap There’s almost never any downtime I love having quick-install options for did women in ww1, installing things like WordPress (what we’ll be using in this guide) Their support is just plain badass.

One time, I needed an obscure PHP server setting changed for a project, and it was something their level-1 techs couldn’t do for role of youth in nation, me. So within 20 minutes of me asking, one of their higher-up system admins not only changed the setting, but also sent me a screenshot of the directories and commands he used to do it just in what did women play case I needed to do it on another server in the nazi dictatorship the future. HostGator, my web host of choice. You can also get a pretty good discount. Since I’ve been with them for what role, several years and two gallants joyce, am directing this tutorial at budget-conscious students, I asked if I could partner with them to role did women in ww1, offer a discount. They said yes, which is why you’ll see my bearded mug on the page when you click through.

So, use the coupon code COLLEGEINFOGEEK to get 5 0% off of the nazi dictatorship, your initial hosting purchase. What Play In Ww1? This is role of youth, actually 30% more savings than you’d get with the did women in ww1, default coupon code they give you, so definitely make use of it if you choose to use HostGator. (It should be filled in when you sign up if you clicked the link above.) So yeah. Microwave? This tutorial assumes you are using HostGator; however, if you choose another host, these instructions should be pretty similar to play in ww1, what you need to do. Start your journey through the order wizard by picking out a domain name. Two Gallants? Assuming you don’t already own one, stick with default tab Register a new domain, and type the one you’d like to see if it’s available.

If it is, you’ll see a screen like the one below! If not, tweak it a bit until you find one that hasn’t been taken. Registering a new domain. Next, scroll down and what play in ww1, complete the next few sections: Confirm that the Hatchling package is letters young poet, selected, and role, choose how many months of hosting you’d like to get up front. I recommend at least one year . Choose a username and security pin. Enter your personal and billing junk. Hatchling plan should be selected.

I recommend getting at least a year. Next, you’ll see a section for building, Hosting Add-ons. Honestly, I don’t think you need any of these, with the possible exception of Domain Privacy Protection . This is a service that prevents your name, address, and phone number from in ww1, coming up in WHOIS searches. To A Young? Most people don’t know about WHOIS, so I didn’t find it necessary as a student – though I do use it today since my site has a larger audience. Other than that, you can skip these options. In the section on Plugins, I’ll show you some ways you can keep your site secure, backed up regularly, and what role did women play, optimized for SEO – all for free.

Hosting add-ons. Microwave At Sainsburys? I don’t think you really need any of these. Finally, review your order to make sure everything’s copacetic, and play, check to dictatorship, make sure the code COLLEGEINFOGEEK is there to get up to 60% percent off – 40% more than their default code gives you #128578; Lastly, hit the big yellow button to create your account. Review your order, then create your account. However, in about recent years WordPress has become so popular and well-supported that it makes a perfect platform for building non-blog sites as well. WordPress is famous for did women play, only taking 5 minutes to install; I say that’s way too long.

Let’s do it in goal 2, shall we? One of the best things about HostGator is their quick-install options for almost every popular CMS (Content Management System). It should be the only option listed. Make sure you leave the what play, directory field blank – that way, your homepage will be set to your domain (i.e. yourcoolnewdomain.com) instead of a sub-folder. Select your domain from the drop-down list. Then fill in the form on letters young poet, the next page like so: Choose a Blog Title.

If you’re creating a personal website, use your name. What Did Women In Ww1? This can be changed later. Choose an Admin Username . Don’t use “admin”, as it’s unsecure (since it’s commonly used). Normally, WordPress doesn’t do any hand-holding; once you log into the Dashboard, you’ve got access to all the tools and it’s up to two gallants, you to what play, figure out what they all do. However, the version of WordPress that HostGator’s cPanel script installs comes with a short wizard that can guide you through the two gallants, process of role play, setting a few things up. Two Gallants? But we aren’t going to role play, use it. The wizard might be useful for to a poet, some people, but it contains a few steps that’ll set things up that I don’t think you need – like a business address.

Plus, it’s good to understand how the WordPress Dashboard works, so we’re going to set everything up manually. Don’t worry, it’s not too much work #128578; To get started, hit the what, “I don’t need help” link beneath the Business and Personal buttons. For example, a page titled “Contact” would get a URL like yourcoolnewdomain.com/contact. This is what you want. However, by default WordPress doesn’t do this for blog posts. Instead, it creates these ugly numeric URLs like yourcoolnewdomain.com/?p=123. These URLs don’t mean anything – it’s much better to make your blog post title be the URL. To do this, you need to role building, change your permalink structure. This is pretty straightforward:

Choose the Post Name permalink setting. Now your blog post URLs will be much more memorable. This isn’t a ridiculously crucial thing to do, but I think it’s good to have your publishing time be accurate. Go to Settings - General. Role Play In Ww1? In the Timezone field, choose your timezone. Save your changes. Now that you’re done taking care of those little details, it’s time to create your pages and in nation, get your content up on the web ! Take a look at joyce my site’s navigation once more to get a feel for what play, what you’re going for here: Since my current personal website primarily uses a one-page design (clicking the two gallants joyce, links simply moves you to the corresponding section of the page), you can also take a look at role play one of letters to a poet, my previous website designs, which used a multi-page approach: As you’re looking at these two different approaches, you might be asking yourself: “Should I go with a one-page or multi-page design?” This is did women in ww1, up to you, but what you should keep in mind when deciding is that your site’s #1 job is to showcase your work and expertise . The better it does that, the more likely people are going to want to hire you or work with you. If you study my current site, you’ll see that most of my main sections link out to other places on the web – my YouTube channel, my podcasts, the speaking page here on College Info Geek, etc. Joyce? This is a strategic decision – as a professional YouTuber/writer, those are the what role play, best places for me to be directing people, since I benefit from people subscribing to my content rather than evaluating it. When I was a student, however, my priority was to get hired.

As a result, going with a multi-page design gave me a way to give potential employers a one-stop shop to see my resume, bio, and a detailed look at my best work. So ask yourself – What’s my website’s purpose? Who is the intended audience? Use that information to definition, guide your decision. If you’re a student, it’s likely that your main priority is getting hired or selected for scholarships/research opportunities/etc. What Play In Ww1? I think a multi-page design works best for those purposes. In the end, though, it’s your choice! With that being said, here are a few pages/sections that I think should absolutely be included somewhere on your site if you’re trying to get hired.

These include: A brief About Me page, which you’ll set as your home page A more detailed Biography page A Resume page where you can list your education, work, etc (remember how I said I hate resumes? Having your resume on two gallants, your website fixes all those things I hate) A Contact page that tells people how they can get in touch with you. It might have a contact form as well. Note: I don’t recommend publicly listing your email address, phone number, or physical address on in ww1, your site – spammers can easily grab that info. A contact form, along with links to dictatorship, your social profiles, is a much better option. Other pages you might think about adding, if they’re applicable to your life: A Portfolio to show off any kind of work you’ve done – graphic design, programming projects, writing – whatever. On my previous site, I created a portfolio of my web work using a normal page template. Did Women? You can make yours this way, or you can get a theme with a specific portfolio template.

Check out at sainsburys, my girlfriend Anna’s site for an example. A Hire Me page. I strongly suggest you make this page, even if you aren’t currently looking for full-time work or freelance gigs. Before you do that, though, you should delete the sample page and post that WordPress automatically puts up on your site. First, get rid of the sample post by what going to Posts on the WordPress Dashboard. Find the post titled “Hello World!” and psychology definition, click Trash. Then go to Pages and do the same thing for the page titled Sample Page. Your About Me page will be the landing page of your site – the place visitors will see first.

Here you’ll want to what role, have a short summary of ovens at sainsburys, who you are, what you’re studying, and the what work you do. It’s also good to have a picture of yourself, and maybe even some quotes about your work from other people. You should already be at the Pages section of the what play, WordPress Dashboard. Find the role in nation, button near the top that says Add New. Role Play? You’ll see this screen when you do: Adding your first page. As you can see, creating pages in two gallants joyce WordPress is pretty easy. To get your About Me page started, first enter a title in the Title Bar. Did Women Play In Ww1? It would probably make sense to title this page “ About Me” or “About your name”. Next, you’ll find the body area. In most cases, you’d use this space to psychology, enter your content.

However, depending on the theme you choose (more on that in the next step), you might be entering your content somewhere else – so for now, just enter a sample sentence or two. Take a look at what play in ww1 the different tools available for role of youth, formatting your content; as you’ll find out, using WordPress isn’t all that different from using Microsoft Word. At this point, your About Me page should look something like this: How your page will look with WordPress’ current default theme. However, WordPress will show you blog section as the homepage by default rather than this page. Since this is a personal site rather than a blog, you’ll want this page to be the what role did women play in ww1, first page visitors see when they get to your site.

Let’s set it as the microwave at sainsburys, home page: In the sidebar, hover over Settings and click Reading. In the Front Page Displays section, click the radio button that says A Static Page Choose your About Me page to be the home page. What Play In Ww1? If you want to have a blog, create and publish a blank page called Blog and the nazi dictatorship, set it as the Posts Page. Play In Ww1? Save your changes. Setting your home page. Now, go back the the nazi dictatorship, the Pages section of WordPress and what did women, create the rest of your pages. This process should be relatively straightforward; the only one that may be more complicated is your Contact page.

This page can be really easy to create if all you want to do is link to your social media profiles. However, you may also want to link your email address or add in a contact form. Making your email address clickable is really easy – just highlight any piece of text (I’ve actually typed out the [fake] email in this example, but you can use any text), click the Link icon (or hit CTRL/CMD+K) and type “mailto:[emailprotected]” without the quotes. However, do note that making your email address public enables anyone to send emails to it – even spammers and bots. This is why I prefer using a contact form instead. Inserting an dictatorship, clickable email. If you decide you want to add in a contact form , you have two options.

You can either find a theme that has a built-in contact page template, or you can use whatever theme you want and add a contact form using a plugin. Did Women Play? Either way, it’s really easy. Essay About? I’ll cover the first option in Step 3 and the second in Step 4. If you’d like to add a blog page to your site, it’s ridiculously easy. Simply make another new page on what did women play in ww1, site called “Blog” (or whatever you want, it doesn’t matter). Then on your Dashboard go back to Settings - Reading and ovens, set your Posts page as that page you just created. From there, all you have to role play in ww1, do is essay about goal, go to did women, Posts and start writing. Monism? All your published blog posts should show up on that Blog page. At this point, you should have all your pages set up, assuming you’re going with a multi-page setup.

Now it’s time to psychology definition, make sure visitors are impressed when they hit your site. Let’s look at customizing your site’s look and feel. Step 3: Customize the Design with a Theme. One of the best things about WordPress is the stupidly large amount of themes available for role play in ww1, your to use. Using a theme, you can change the look of your site without needing to to a young, know any CSS or have any graphic design skills. A theme is play in ww1, basically a skin for your site. It changes the look while retaining all the content you created. The first step in customizing your site’s look is to simply find a theme you like. This can be easier said than done, due to the huge amount of themes out there.

I’m going to try and help you pick one out. Note that not all themes are created equal. Some themes are simple, offering just the basics, while others are monstrous creations with dozens of post types, animations, and extra bells and whistles. Some themes are made for specific types of sites, like magazines or restaurants. Typically, premium themes will offer a lot more options and give you greater flexibility than free themes.

They also come with another benefit – support from the monism definition, theme developer. However, there are plenty of great free themes out there you can use, so don’t think you absolutely need a premium theme. In fact, I’m using a free theme on my personal website (which I’ve listed below). I’ve gone out and found three themes that I think work well for personal sites. What Role? Keep in essay about goal mind that there are literally thousands of what role did women in ww1, themes out there, so this is just a starting point. This is the theme I’m using on my personal website.

It’s incredibly versatile, as it’s a builder-style theme that lets you customize each page to essay goal, a huge degree. Also, it’s free. In the near future, I’ll be including a video in this section that’ll walk you through the basics of play in ww1, this theme. Until then, check out the documentation, and essay goal, install the demo content so you can get a feel for how things work (it’ll ask you whether you want to do this right after you activate the theme). Verbosa is another great free theme that gives you a lot of room for what role did women in ww1, customizing the look an ovens, feel. It’s not a builder-style theme, so you can’t edit the structure as much as you can with Simple, but you do have a lot of other options. In my opinion, Verbosa is what did women play in ww1, easier to about goal, learn than Simple, which is a fair trade-off for its lower level of in ww1, flexibility. Lovecraft is, by in nation admission, a theme for what play, bloggers – but with its great typography, clean menu, and large image area, you could also use it to joyce, make a great-looking personal website. Unlike the did women play, previous three themes I’ve listed here, Ultra is a premium theme. That means it costs money – around $50 as I write this. So why pay for a theme when there are so many free ones out there?

Simply put, it’s flexibility. Ultra is joyce, a theme made by Themify – the same people who made Simple, which is the free theme I mentioned above. While Simple is indeed very flexible – especially for a free theme – Ultra takes things up a notch. For instance, Ultra includes 15 different header styles, which means you can put your logo and menu items wherever you want. You also have a lot more choice when it comes to colors, fonts, and did women play, pre-built page layouts. Additionally, there’s a portfolio feature that lets you easily showcase your work. Personally, I find the free Simple theme to be enough for my needs. Letters Poet? If you need additional features and even more flexibility, though, Ultra is my top recommendation.

Note: Since Simple and Ultra are made by the same people and use the same foundation, you can start out with Simple and transfer everything you’ve created to Ultra if you end up needing it. Want even more themes? Here are some great places to what role play in ww1, look: Official WordPress theme repository – the biggest source of free themes Themify – my current favorite place to find WordPress themes ThemeForest – which has a ton of themes, so check out this search for some good ones for personal websites. Like I said, the theme options you have are literally endless. Explore and find something you like! Also, see if the theme you’ve chosen has a template for a contact page. If it does, you’ll be able to put up a contact form without using a plugin. Once you’ve found something that you like well enough, let’s get it installed.

Wherever you found your theme, download it to your computer. The theme will probably come in a .zip file. Look inside this zip file. If you see files like index.php, header.php, and footer.php in to a poet that very first folder, you’re good. Did Women In Ww1? If you find that those files are buried in sub folders, you’ll need extract everything and create a zip folder of whatever folder contains those files. Most themes will come with documentation that tells you how or even if you need to do this, so consult that for help if you need it. Once you have the final .zip file, it’s time to install it. On the two gallants joyce, WordPress Dashboard, hover over did women play in ww1, Appearance and essay, click Themes. Click the tab at what play in ww1 the top that says Install Themes.

Find and click the link that says Upload. Choose your .zip file and ovens, and click Install Now. Make sure the theme was installed successfully, and click Activate. Uploading a theme. From this point forward, I can’t really cover theme setup in this tutorial. Themes are so diverse that it’d just be impossible for me to what role, cover everything. Luckily, most good themes come with documentation that will walk you through setting them up. Almost every WordPress theme out there will give you some options for customizing your site’s logo, colors, and other features. Some themes might come bundled with special menu areas in the Dashboard for the nazi, certain settings, but most of your customizing will be done at the built-in WordPress Customize Tool.

To access it, hover over Appearance, then click Customize. Once you’ve opened the tool, you’ll see a live preview of your site, along with a number of what role did women play in ww1, options on the left. Every theme will include different options, so you’ll have to play around with it yourself to see what’s possible with the theme you’ve chosen. Here’s an idea of what it looks like: Here, I’ve changed my site’s logo using the Customize tool.

Once you’ve made all of your changes, click Save Publish at the top of the menu to letters to a poet, make your changes live. Remember: Depending on your theme, the Customize Tool might not be the only area where you can make changes! For example, the role in ww1, theme I’m using on my personal website, Simple (linked above), features an entire page builder tool that can be accessed on every page. Always make sure to check out the documentation for the nazi, your theme so you know what all your options are. One thing I’ll go over before we head into the next section: WordPress’ Custom Menu functionality. Since I published this tutorial, a lot of people have asked me how to create custom menus on their sites. Role Did Women? Specifically, they wanted to the nazi, do things like:

Change the order of the role did women, pages in their menu Create menu items that would drop down to the nazi, display more pages related to what role play, a main page. Ask, and ye shall receive. I’ve created a short video that will guide you through the two gallants joyce, whole process of creating a custom menu for your site. Oh, and role did women play, one more thing before we move on… I bet you’re wondering how to the nazi dictatorship, get a cool logo for your personal website like I have on mine. Did Women In Ww1? Well, you could design yourself on using Photoshop or another program if you have the graphic design chops. I certainly didn’t have those chops, though.

I actually used a service called Fiverr to have mine done. Joyce? Fiverr is a website that lets people pay $5 to other people in exchange for… well, almost anything. I just went there, searched for “logo”, and picked the play in ww1, option with the most gigs and letters poet, highest satisfaction rate. Role Did Women? $5 for a logo ain’t bad! Now that you’ve got your theme, it’s time to tweak things a little bit further by microwave ovens adding plugins and widgets. Step 4: Improve Your Site with Plugins and Widgets. Alone, WordPress is a great system with a lot of functionality. However, the what role in ww1, true beauty of WordPress lies in its ability to work with plugins – small (or large) pieces of packaged code that add functionality to your site. There are several plugins that I believe are absolutely essential to any WordPress site, and more still that you may want to install as well. Installing plugins is pretty straightforward.

Unlike themes, almost every plugin you’ll ever need is essay, kept in did women play in ww1 the official WordPress plugin repository. Therefore, you don’t need to upload .zip files – you can actually just search for plugins right from your Dashboard and install them! To do this: On the WordPress Dashboard, hover over psychology, Plugins and click Add New. Search for the plugin you want. What Role Did Women In Ww1? The search function isn’t amazing, so you’ll usually get the best results by two gallants joyce typing in what role play in ww1 the exact name of the to a young, plugin you’re searching for.

Click Details to read about the plugin or Install Now to install it. After you install, click Activate. If there’s any setup required for what, the plugin, take care of the nazi, it. Important Note: Plugins work directly with the guts of your WordPress installation. It’s important that you be discerning on what plugins you choose to what role did women in ww1, install on your blog; make sure you trust what you’re installing. This is where you’ll search for and install plugins. I recommend looking up plugins at the WordPress Plugin Directory before installing them. Letters Young Poet? If a plugin has a low star rating, it might be broken – or even worse, it could have security vulnerabilities that can open up your blog to role did women play, attacks.

Be careful out there, trooper. There are several plugins that I wouldn’t be caught dead without on in nation, these high seas of the Internet. I recommend you use them as well. I’ll link to each one’s repository page, but remember that you can install them directly from your Dashboard just by searching. Loginizer – no, this plugin doesn’t turn your site into a Wolverine fan blog (that would be Logan izer), but it does prevent people from getting unlimited chances at what role trying to log into goal, your Dashboard. Role? After a few failed attempts, this plugin will block the IP address of the person trying to log in. It’s a great boost to essay about, your site’s security. Ninja Forms – a simple, easy-to-use contact form plugin. Check out the role did women play, documentation for instructions on how to get everything set up. WP Super Cache – simply put, this plugin will make your site load a lot faster for your visitors.

By default, WordPress pulls information from its database each time a visitor loads a page. This plugin will “cache” a lot of monism psychology, that information, letting it be loaded really quickly without the need for a database call. Yoast SEO – a great plugin that optimized your site’s SEO (search engine optimization) potential. This makes you more findable by search engines. It’s also pretty complex, so follow this tutorial to set it up. UpdraftPlus – probably the best free site backup plugin I’ve seen. Role Did Women? Lets you manually back up your database or your entire site. You can also set regular, scheduled backups (which I recommend), and send them off to two gallants joyce, remote destinations like Dropbox, Amazon S3, email, etc. These plugins are just the tip of the iceberg. If there’s something you want to do with your site, there’s probably a plugin that can help you do it.

Alright, now that you’ve got your plugins installed, let’s move on to the what did women play, final bit – widgets. Widgets are elements that you can place on any part of monism definition, your theme that has been “widgetized” – that is, set up for what role play in ww1, widgets to display. There are already a few widgets displaying on your site by letters default, like Category, Recent Posts, and Meta (though some themes might not display them everywhere). To edit the widgets that are displayed on your site, follow these steps: On the WordPress Dashboard, hover over Appearance and click on Widgets. What Role In Ww1? On the right side of the screen, you’ll see all of the widget areas that have been created for your theme. Drag the widgets you want from the role in nation building, middle area into the correct boxes. What Play In Ww1? Change any specific widget settings you need to change. Widgets are automatically saved when you drag them in or out of to a poet, a box. By the way, you can use the Widget Context plugin if you want to specify certain pages that a widget will or won’t be displayed on.

This keeps things from role play in ww1, getting redundant. Since this is monism, a personal site , there are some specific widgets you might want to show: Links – if you have friends who also have personal sites, it can be cool to link to them. I did this on role did women, my previous personal site’s sidebar; it was a cool way to build a visual network of young poet, student entrepreneurs. Text – as it says, this is a widget for what role did women play, “arbitrary text or HTML”. You can put anything in this list, granted that you know a smidgen of code.

For instance, you could add a picture of yourself and a super-short bio like I’ve done on this site. The Nazi Dictatorship? Or you can embed your tweets using Twitter’s Profile Widget. ? ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF ONLINE SHOPPING Essay. Just year before, online shopping was not popular as it is what role, today. But nowadays online shopping is the one of the role building, best method considered for what play in ww1, shopping. Now it allows the buyer to monism psychology definition buy anything by just a click of mouse. What Role In Ww1? Now online shopping offers a variety of products and services, as it allows us to buy clothing, airlines tickets, a car and even your grocery to shop. Two Gallants Joyce? Websites like amazon.com, ebay.com are among the list of most popular websites being used these days. This essay will discuss advantages; (comparison shopping and save time) and what role disadvantages; (additional costs and two gallants waiting time and insecure shopping). One of the main advantage of online shopping is; comparison shopping in which products can be compared and what role contrast on the basis of their prices and multiple outlets.

Today everybody wants the freedom of choice, so the marketers have to microwave ovens present the variety of what did women product to choose from. There are number of the nazi online shopping websites, for example ebay.com, amazon.com, ozsale.com etc. Role Did Women Play In Ww1? that offer variety of products and services with different offers based on prices. This allows us the freedom of price flexibility and choice. So in that way, it makes easier to select and young poet discard the product with his own choice. Many consumers like to explore before purchasing any particular product from different websites which offers different prices and different offers from other website at the same time. Comparison shopping affects the buyer’s trend to buy any product. The trend of comparison shopping is influenced by the ‘dimensions of decision-making style’ of the consumers (Park, Y. A., Gretzel, U. 2010). The comparison shopping also become beneficial for the buyer as it allows the consumer to save money as well. Another main advantage of the what did women, online shopping is monism definition, that it saves time.

Online shopping is considered as a convenient method to what role did women in ww1 find those things which are hard to find made it a ‘time saving method’ (Horrigan, J. 2008). Of Youth In Nation Building? The other most important disadvantage of the online shopping is the did women play, additional cost and waiting time that Company’s takes to deliver the product. . The additional cost for delivering the product is also an important reason why people used to buy from their local outlets. A product can take up to weeks to deliver the product which make it the most frustrating factor for online shopping. Two Gallants? The online shopping can be frustrating factor for those who don’t have patience and time to wait. So it becomes better for the buyer to buy the role, product from local shops instantly.

The price on online store is usually low but delivery charges of the product make the charges similar or higher than local outlets. The main disadvantage of letters to a young poet online shopping is insecure shopping. Insecure shopping means the scams and play frauds by gaining the personal and financial details of the buyers and utilize it in a bad way. If someone obtain your details regarding your personal and the nazi dictatorship financial information, that can harm your personality (respect) and on other hand it can become a cause for the loss of the money. What Did Women? Online shopping is widely used for shopping but has ‘worries about sending their financial details’ such as credit cards (Horrigan, J. 2008). There are number of scam and fraud websites that offer very attracting offers but websites like this can loot you. So scam websites make online shopping a chaos for the user. It can be concluded that online shopping have advantages but have disadvantages as well. Online shopping provides us variation that means comparison shopping but on other hand online shopping companies charge extra for delivering. It saves times on the nazi dictatorship, shopping but takes time on delivering.

It is available every time but have insecurity of being scammed and looted. What Role Play? But in poet last it can be easily concluded that if buyer have time for waiting they can use online shopping from registered and legal website which can decrease the fear of online shopping frauds. So, it can be easily concluded that online shopping can be a best method for shopping. Horrigan, J. (2008). Online shopping. Pew Internet American Life Project Report, 36. Lee, G. G., Lin, H. essay on cyber dom Freedom of Expression on the Internet. By William Fisher. Last Updated June 14, 2001. The Internet offers extraordinary opportunities for speakers, broadly defined. Political candidates, cultural critics, corporate gadflies -- anyone who wants to express an role in ww1, opinion about anything -- can make their thoughts available to a world-wide audience far more easily than has ever been possible before. A large and growing group of Internet participants have seized that opportunity. Some observers find the resultant outpouring of speech exhilarating. They see in about, it nothing less than the revival of role did women in ww1, democracy and the restoration of community. Other observers find the goal, amount -- and, above all, the kind of speech -- that the what in ww1, Internet has stimulated offensive or frightening.

Pornography, hate speech, lurid threats -- these flourish alongside debates over the future of the Democratic Party and exchanges of views concerning flyfishing in Patagonia. This phenomenon has provoked various efforts to limit the kind of speech in role of youth building, which one may engage on the Internet -- or to develop systems to filter out the more offensive material. This module examines some of the what role did women in ww1, legal issues implicated by the increasing bitter struggle between the advocates of free speech and the advocates of filtration and control. Before plunging into the details of the about goal, proliferating controversies over freedom of expression on the Internet, you need some background information on what role play, two topics. Dictatorship! The first and more obvious is the Free-Speech Clause of the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. The relevance and authority of the First Amendment should not be exaggerated; as several observers have remarked, on the Internet, the First Amendment is just a local ordinance. However, free-expression controversies that arise in the United States inevitably implicate the Constitution. And the in ww1, arguments deployed in monism psychology definition, the course of American First-Amendment fights often inform or infect the handling of free-expression controversies in other countries. The upshot: First-Amendment jurisprudence is worth studying. Unfortunately, that jurisprudence is large and arcane.

The relevant constitutional provision is simple enough: Congress shall make no law . . What Role Play! . abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press . . .. But the case law that, over the course of the the nazi, twentieth century, has been built upon this foundation is complex. In Ww1! An extremely abbreviated outline of the in nation building, principal doctrines would go as follows: If a law gives no clear notice of the what role in ww1, kind of speech it prohibits, it?s void for vagueness. If a law burdens substantially more speech than is necessary to advance a compelling government interest, it?s unconstitutionally overbroad. A government may not force a person to endorse any symbol, slogan, or pledge. Governmental restrictions on the time, place, and manner in which speech is permitted are constitutional if and only if: they are content neutral, both on their face and as applied; they leave substantial other opportunities for speech to take place; and they narrowly serve a significant state interest. On state-owned property that does not constitute a public forum, government may restrict speech in any way that is reasonable in light of the nature and purpose of the property in question.

Content-based governmental restrictions on speech are unconstitutional unless they advance a compelling state interest. To this principle, there are six exceptions: 1. Speech that is likely to lead to imminent lawless action may be prohibited. 2. Fighting words -- i.e., words so insulting that people are likely to role fight back -- may be prohibited. 3. Obscenity -- i.e., erotic expression, grossly or patently offensive to an average person, that lacks serious artistic or social value -- may be prohibited. 4. Child pornography may be banned whether or not it is legally obscene and whether or not it has serious artistic or social value, because it induces people to engage in lewd displays, and what role the creation of the nazi, it threatens the welfare of children. 5. Defamatory statements may be prohibited. (In other words, the making of such statements may constitutionally give rise to civil liability.) However, if the what play in ww1, target of the defamation is a public figure, she must prove that the defendant acted with malice. If the target is not a public figure but the statement involved a matter of public concern, the plaintiff must prove that the young poet, defendant acted with negligence concerning its falsity. 6. Commercial Speech may be banned only if it is misleading, pertains to illegal products, or directly advances a substantial state interest with a degree of suppression no greater than is reasonably necessary.

If you are familiar with all of these precepts -- including the various terms of art and ambiguities they contain -- you're in good shape. If not, you should read some more about the First Amendment. A thorough and insightful study of the field may be found in Lawrence Tribe, American Constitutional Law (2d ed.), chapter 12. Good, less massive surveys may be found at the websites for what role The National Endowment for the Arts and the Cornell University Legal Information Institute. The second of the two kinds of background you might find helpful is a brief introduction to monism psychology definition the current debate among academics over the character and desirability of what has come to be called cyberdemocracy. Until a few years ago, many observers thought that the what did women, Internet offered a potential cure to the related diseases that have afflicted most representative democracies in two gallants, the late twentieth century: voter apathy; the narrowing of the range of political debate caused in part by the inertia of a system of what did women in ww1, political parties; the growing power of the media, which in turn seems to reduce discussion of complex issues to a battle of sound bites; and the increasing influence of private corporations and other sources of wealth. The Nazi Dictatorship! All of these conditions might be ameliorated, it was suggested, by the ease with which ordinary citizens could obtain information and what did women play in ww1 then cheaply make their views known to one another through the Internet. A good example of this perspective is a recent article by Bernard Bell, where he suggests that ?[t]he Internet has, in many ways, moved society closer to the ideal Justice Brennan set forth so eloquently in New York Times v. Young! Sullivan. Did Women In Ww1! It has not only made debate on public issues more 'uninhibited, robust, and wide-open,' but has similarly invigorated discussion of non-public issues. By the same token, the role, Internet has empowered smaller entities and what role did women play in ww1 even individuals, enabling them to widely disseminate their messages and, indeed, reach audiences as broad as those of established media organizations.?

Recently, however, this rosy view has come under attack. The Internet, skeptics claim, is not a giant town hall. The kinds of information flows and discussions it seems to foster are, in some ways, disturbing. One source of trouble is that the ovens at sainsburys, Internet encourages like-minded persons (often geographically dispersed) to cluster together in bulletin boards and other virtual clubs. Role In Ww1! When this occurs, the monism definition, participants tend to reinforce one another's views. The resultant group polarization can be ugly. More broadly, the Internet seems at least potentially corrosive of something we have long taken for granted in the United States: a shared political culture. When most people read the same newspaper or watch the same network television news broadcast each day, they are forced at what in ww1 least to glance at stories they might fight troubling and become aware of persons and groups who hold views sharply different from their own. To A! The Internet makes it easy for role did women people to avoid such engagement -- by enabling people to select their sources of information and about goal their conversational partners. The resultant diminution in the power of a few media outlets pleases some observers, like Peter Huber of the Manhattan Institute.

But the concomitant corrosion of community and shared culture deeply worries others, like Cass Sunstein of the University of Chicago. An excellent summary of the literature on this issue can be found in role play in ww1, a recent New York Times article by Alexander Stille. If you are interested in digging further into these issues, we recommend the following books: Cass Sunstein, Republic.com (Princeton Univ. Press 2001) Peter Huber, Law and Disorder in Cyberspace: Abolish the microwave at sainsburys, F.C.C. and role did women in ww1 Let Common Law Rule the Telecosm (Oxford Univ. Press 1997) Andrew Shapiro, The Control Revolution (Public Affairs 2000) To test some of these competing accounts of the character and potential of discourse on the Internet, we suggest you visit - or, better yet, participate in - some of the sites at which Internet discourse occurs. Here's a sampler:

1. Restrictions on Pornography. Three times in the past five years, critics of pornography on the Internet have sought, through federal legislation, to essay goal prevent children from gaining access to it. The first of these efforts was the Communications Decency Act of 1996 (commonly known as the CDA), which (a) criminalized the knowing transmission over the Internet of what did women play in ww1, obscene or indecent messages to microwave ovens at sainsburys any recipient under 18 years of age and (b) prohibited the knowin[g] sending or displaying to a person under 18 of any message that, in context, depicts or describes, in terms patently offensive as measured by contemporary community standards, sexual or excretory activities or organs. Persons and organizations who take good faith, . . . effective . Role Did Women! . Joyce! . actions to what did women restrict access by minors to the prohibited communications, or who restricted such access by microwave ovens requiring certain designated forms of age proof, such as a verified credit card or an role did women in ww1, adult identification number, were exempted from these prohibitions. The CDA was widely critized by civil libertarians and soon succumbed to a constitutional challenge. In 1997, the United States Supreme Court struck down the statute, holding that it violated the of youth, First Amendment in what in ww1, several ways: because it restricted speech on the basis of in nation, its content, it could not be justified as a time, place, and manner regulation; its references to indecent and what patently offensive messages were unconstitutionally vague; its supposed objectives could all be achieved through regulations less restrictive of speech; it failed to exempt from its prohibitions sexually explicit material with scientific, educational, or other redeeming social value. Two aspects of the about, Court's ruling are likely to have considerable impact on future constitutional decisions in this area. First, the Court rejected the Government's effort to analogize the Internet to traditional broadcast media (especially television), which the Court had previously held could be regulated more strictly than other media. Unlike TV, the Court reasoned, the what role did women play in ww1, Internet has not historically been subject to extensive regulation, is not characterized by a limited spectrum of microwave, available frequencies, and did women play in ww1 is not invasive. Consequently, the Internet enjoys full First-Amendment protection.

Second, the Court encouraged the development of technologies that would enable parents to block their children's access to Internet sites offering kinds of material the joyce, parents deemed offensive. A year later, pressured by vocal opponents of Internet pornography -- such as Enough is Enough and the National Law Center for Children and Families -- Congress tried again. Role Play In Ww1! The 1998 Child Online Protection Act (COPA) obliged commercial Web operators to restrict access to material considered harmful to minors -- which was, in two gallants, turn, defined as any communication, picture, image, graphic image file, article, recording, writing or other matter of any kind that is obscene or that meets three requirements: (1) The average person, applying contemporary community standards, would find, taking the material as a whole and with respect to minors, is what play designed to role building appeal to, or is designed to pander to, the prurient interest. (2) The material depicts, describes, or represents, in a manner patently offensive with respect to minors, an actual or simulated sexual act or sexual conduct, an actual or simulated normal or perverted sexual act or a lewd exhibition of the genitals or post-pubescent female breast. (3) The material, taken as a whole, lacks serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value for minors. Title I of the statute required commercial sites to evaluate material and to enact restrictive means ensuring that harmful material does not reach minors.

Title II prohibited the collection without parental consent of personal information concerning children who use the Internet. Role! Affirmative defenses similar to those that had been contained in the CDA were included. Once again, the courts found that Congress had exceeded its constitutional authority. In the judgment of the Third Circuit Court of ovens, Appeals, the critical defect of COPA was its reliance upon the criterion of contemporary community standards to determine what kinds of speech are permitted on the Internet: Because material posted on the Web is what role did women accessible by all Internet users worldwide, and because current technology does not permit a Web publisher to restrict access to its site based on the geographic locale of essay about goal, a each particular Internet user, COPA essentially requires that every Web publisher subject to what in ww1 the statute abide by the most restrictive and conservative state's community standard in dictatorship, order to avoid criminal liability. The net result was to impose burdens on permissible expression more severe than can be tolerated by the Constitution. The court acknowledged that its ruling did not leave much room for constitutionally valid restrictions on Internet pornography: We are forced to role did women play recognize that, at present, due to technological limitations, there may be no other means by microwave which harmful material on the Web may be constitutionally restricted, although, in what role did women play, light of rapidly developing technological advances, what may now be impossible to two gallants joyce regulate constitutionally may, in the not-too-distant future, become feasible. In late 2000, the anti-pornography forces tried once more.

At their urging, Congress adopted the Children's Internet Protection Act (CHIPA), which requires schools and libraries that receive federal funding (either grants or e-rate subsidies) to install Internet filtering equipment on library computers that can be used by children. This time the Clinton administration opposed the law, but the role did women, outgoing President was obliged to sign it because it was attached to a major appropriations bill. Opposition to CHIPA is intensifying. Opponents claim that it suffers from all the constitutional infirmities of the the nazi, CDA and what role COPA. In addition, it will reinforce one form of the digital divide -- by subjecting poor children, who lack home computers and must rely upon public libraries for access to the Internet, to restrictions that more wealthy children can avoid. The Electronic Frontier Foundation has organized protests against the statute.

In April of this year, several civil-liberties groups and public library associations filed suit in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania seeking a declaration that the statute is unconstitutional. It remains to essay about goal be seen whether this statute will fare any better than its predecessors. The CDA, COPA, and CHIPA have one thing in common: they all involve overt governmental action -- and thus are subject to what role challenge under the First Amendment. Some observers of the Internet argue that more dangerous than these obvious legislative initiatives are the efforts by private Internet Service Providers to ovens at sainsburys install filters on their systems that screen out kinds of content that the role, ISPs believe their subscribers would find offensive. Ovens At Sainsburys! Because policies of this sort are neither mandated nor encouraged by the government, they would not, under conventional constitutional principles, constitute state action -- and thus would not be vulnerable to constitutional scrutiny. Such a result, argues Larry Lessig, would be pernicious; to avoid it, we need to revise our understanding of the state action doctrine. Charles Fried disagrees:

Note first of all that the what role play, state action doctrine does not only limit the power of courts to protect persons from private power that interferes with public freedoms. Letters Poet! It also protects individuals from the courts themselves, which are, after all, another government agency. By limiting the First Amendment to protecting citizens from what role did women, government (and not from each other), the state action doctrine enlarges the sphere of essay goal, unregulated discretion that individuals may exercise in what they think and say. In the name of First Amendment values, courts could perhaps inquire whether I must grant access to my newspaper to opinions I abhor, must allow persons whose moral standards I deplore to join my expressive association, or must remain silent so that someone else gets a chance to reach my audience with a less appealing but unfamiliar message. Such inquiries, however, would place courts in the business of deciding which opinions I would have to publish in my newspaper and which would so distort my message that putting those words in play, my mouth would violate my freedom of speech; what an role in nation building, organization's associational message really is and whether forcing the organization to accept a dissenting member would distort that message; and which opinions, though unable to attract an audience on what role, their own, are so worthy that they must not be drowned out by more popular messages.

I am not convinced that whatever changes the Internet has wrought in our environment require the courts to mount this particular tiger. The United States may have led the way in seeking (unsuccessfully, thus far) to restrict the flow of pornography on the Internet, but the governments of other countries are now joining the fray. Microwave! For the what play, status of the struggle in a few jurisdictions, you might read: Joseph C. Psychology Definition! Rodriguez, A Comparative Study of Internet Content Regulations in the United States and Singapore, 1 Asian-Pacific L. Pol'y J. 9 (February 2000). (Singapore) Mark Konkel, Internet Indecency, International Censorship, and Service Providers' Liability, 19 N.Y.L. Sch.

J. INt'l Comp. L. 453 (2000). What Play! (Canada, Maylasia, and China) In a provocative recent article, Amy Adler argues that the effort to curb child pornography online -- the kind of pornography that disgusts the definition, most people -- is fundamentally misguided. Far from reducing the incidence of the sexual abuse of children, governmental efforts to what play curtail child pornography only increase it. A summary of her argument is available here.

The full article is available here . When does speech become a threat? Put more precisely, when does a communication over the Internet inflict -- or threaten to inflict -- sufficient damage on its recipient that it ceases to be protected by the First Amendment and properly gives rise to criminal sanctions? Two recent cases addressed that issue from ovens at sainsburys, different angles. The first was popularly known as the Jake Baker case. In 1994 and 1995, Abraham Jacob Alkhabaz, also known as Jake Baker, was an undergraduate student at the University of Michigan. During that period, he frequently contributed sadistic and sexually explicit short stories to a Usenet electronic bulletin board available to the public over the Internet.

In one such story, he described in detail how he and a companion tortured, sexually abused, and killed a young woman, who was given the name of one of Baker's classmates. (Excerpts from the story, as reprinted in the Court of what role in ww1, Appeals decision in the case, are available here. WARNING: This material is very graphic in essay about goal, nature and may be troubling to some readers. It is presented in role play in ww1, order to provide a complete view of the facts of the case.) Baker's stories came to the attention of another Internet user, who assumed the name of Arthur Gonda. Baker and Gonda then exchanged many email messages, sharing their sadistic fantasies and discussing the methods by which they might kidnap and torture a woman in Baker's dormitory. When these stories and email exchanges came to light, Baker was indicted for violation of 18 U.S.C. 875(c), which provides: Whoever transmits in dictatorship, interstate or foreign commerce any communication containing any threat to kidnap any person or any threat to injure the what role play, person of another, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than five years, or both. Federal courts have traditionally construed this provision narrowly, lest it penalize expression shielded by the First Amendment. Specifically, the courts have required that a defendant's statement, in order to trigger criminal sanctions, constitute a true threat -- as distinguished from, for example, inadvertent statements, hyperbole, innocuous talk, or political commentary.

Baker moved to quash the indictment on the ground that his statements on the Internet did not constitute true threats. Psychology Definition! The District Court agreed, ruling that the class of women supposedly threatened was not identified in Baker's exchanges with Gonda with the degree of specificity required by the First Amendment and that, although Baker had expressed offensive desires, it was not constitutionally permissible to infer an intention to act on a desire from a simple expression of what role did women play, desire. The District Judge's concluding remarks concerning the character of threatening speech on the Internet bear emphasis: Baker's words were transmitted by means of the Internet, a relatively new communications medium that is itself currently the subject of much media attention. The Internet makes it possible with unprecedented ease to achieve world-wide distribution of material, like Baker's story, posted to its public areas. Young! When used in such a fashion, the Internet may be likened to a newspaper with unlimited distribution and no locatable printing press - and with no supervising editorial control. But Baker's e-mail messages, on what did women, which the superseding indictment is based, were not publicly published but privately sent to Gonda. While new technology such as the Internet may complicate analysis and may sometimes require new or modified laws, it does not in this instance qualitatively change the analysis under the statute or under the essay goal, First Amendment. Whatever Baker's faults, and he is to be faulted, he did not violate 18 U.S.C. § 875(c). Two of the three judges on the panel that heard the appeal agreed.

In their view, a violation of 875(c) requires a demonstration, first, that a reasonable person would interpret the communication in question as serious expression of an did women play, intention to inflict bodily harm and, second, that a reasonable person would perceive the communications as being conveyed to role in nation building effect some change or achieve some goal through intimidation. Baker's speech failed, in their judgment, to rise to what role did women play this level. Judge Krupansky, the third member of the to a young poet, panel, dissented. In a sharply worded opinion, he denounced the role did women, majority for about compelling the prosecution to meet a standard higher that Congress intended or than the First Amendment required. In his view, the pertinent inquiry is whether a jury could find that a reasonable recipient of the role did women, communication would objectively tend to believe that the speaker was serious about his stated intention. Monism Definition! A reasonable jury, he argued, could conclude that Baker's speech met this standard -- especially in light of the fact that the woman named in the short story had, upon learning of what did women play in ww1, it, experienced a shattering traumatic reaction that resulted in recommended psychological counselling. The second of the monism, two decisions is popularly known as the Nuremberg files case. In 1995, the American Coalition of Life Activists (ACLA), an anti-abortion group that advocates the use of force in their efforts to curtail abortions, created a poster featuring what the ACLA described as the Dirty Dozen, a group of doctors who performed abortions.

The posters offered a $ 5,000 [r]eward for what role play in ww1 information leading to arrest, conviction and monism psychology revocation of license to practice medicine of the doctors in question, and in ww1 listed their home addresses and, in some instances, their phone numbers. Versions of the poster were distributed at letters to a poet anti-abortion rallies and later on television. In 1996, an expanded list of role did women, abortion providers, now dubbed the Nuremberg files, was posted on microwave ovens at sainsburys, the Internet with the assistance of an anti-abortion activist named Neil Horsley. The Internet version of the list designated doctors and clinic workers who had been attacked by anti-abortion terrorists in two ways: the names of people who had been murdered were crossed out; the names of play in ww1, people who had been wounded were printed in grey. (For a version of the Nuremberg Files web site, click here. WARNING: This material is very graphic in nature and may be disturbing to many readers. It is presented in order to provide a complete view of the facts of the psychology, case). The doctors named and described on the list feared for their lives. What Role Did Women Play! In particular, some testified that they feared that, by publicizing their addresses and descriptions, the ACLA had increased the ease with which terrorists could locate and attack them -- and that, by publicizing the names of doctors who had already been killed, the ACLA was encouraging those attacks. Some of the doctors sought recourse in the courts. They sued the ACLA, twelve individual anti-abortion activists and an affiliated organization, contending that their actions violated the federal Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act of 1994 (FACE), 18 U.S.C. §248, and monism psychology definition the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO), 18 U.S.C. §1962.

In an effort to avoid a First-Amendment challenge to the suit, the trial judge instructed the role play, jury that defendants could be liable only if their statements were true threats. The jury, concluding that the ACLA had indeed made such true threats, awarded the plaintiffs $107 million in actual and punitive damages. The trial court then enjoined the psychology, defendants from what, making or distributing the two gallants, posters, the webpage or anything similar. This past March, a panel of the Court of what role in ww1, Appeals for young the Ninth Circuit overturned the verdict, ruling that it violated the First Amendment. Judge Kozinski began his opinion by likening the anti-abortion movement to other political movements in American history, such as the Patriots in what role in ww1, the American Revolution, abolitionism, the labor movement, the anti-war movement in the 1960s, the animal-rights movement, and the environmental movement. All, he argued, have had their violent fringes, which have lent to the language of their non-violent members a tinge of menace. However, to avoid curbing legitimate political commentary and agitation, Kozinski insisted, it was essential that courts not overread strongly worded but not explicitly threatening statements. Specifically, he held that:

Defendants can only be held liable if they authorized, ratified, or directly threatened violence. About Goal! If defendants threatened to commit violent acts, by working alone or with others, then their statements could properly support the verdict. But if their statements merely encouraged unrelated terrorists, then their words are protected by the First Amendment. The trial judge's charge to the jury had not made this standard adequately clear, he ruled. More importantly, no reasonable jury, properly instructed, could have concluded that the standard had been met. Accordingly, the play, trial judge was instructed to of youth building dissolve the injunction and enter judgment for the defendants on what role in ww1, all counts. In the course of his opinion, Kozinski offered the following reflections on the fact that the defendants' speech had occurred in definition, public discourse -- including the Internet: In considering whether context could import a violent meaning to ACLA's non-violent statements, we deem it highly significant that all the statements were made in the context of public discourse, not in direct personal communications. Although the First Amendment does not protect all forms of what did women play, public speech, such as statements inciting violence or an imminent panic, the the nazi, public nature of the role in ww1, speech bears heavily upon whether it could be interpreted as a threat. As we held in dictatorship, McCalden v. California Library Ass'n, public speeches advocating violence are given substantially more leeway under the First Amendment than privately communicated threats. There are two reasons for this distinction: First, what may be hyperbole in a public speech may be understood (and intended) as a threat if communicated directly to the person threatened, whether face-to-face, by telephone or by letter.

In targeting the recipient personally, the speaker leaves no doubt that he is sending the recipient a message of some sort. Did Women! In contrast, typical political statements at rallies or through the media are far more diffuse in their focus because they are generally intended, at least in ovens, part, to shore up political support for the speaker's position. Second, and more importantly, speech made through the normal channels of group communication, and concerning matters of public policy, is in ww1 given the maximum level of protection by the Free Speech Clause because it lies at monism psychology the core of the First Amendment. The First Amendment forbids Congress to make any law ?abridging the freedom of speech.? The copyright statute plainly interferes with certain kinds of speech: it prevents people from ?publicly performing? or ?reproducing? copyrighted material without permission. In other words, several ways in which people might be inclined to ?speak? have been declared by Congress illegal.

Does this imply that the copyright statute as a whole ? or, less radically, some specific applications of it ? should be deemed unconstitutional? Courts confronted with this question have almost invariable answered: no. Two justifications are commonly offered in role did women, support of the compatibility of copyright and ?freedom of speech.? First, Article I, Section 8, Clause 8 of the Constitution explicitly authorizes Congress ?To promote the Progress of Science and the useful Arts, by securing for limited Times to young Authors and Inventors the exclusive Right to their respective Writings and Discoveries,? and there is no indication that the drafters or ratifiers of the First Amendment intended to nullify this express grant of lawmaking power. Role Did Women! Second, various doctrines within copyright law function to ensure that it does not interfere unduly with the two gallants joyce, ability of persons to express themselves. Specifically, the principle that only the particular way in which an idea is ?expressed? is copyrightable, not the idea itself, ensures that the citizenry will be able to discuss concepts, arguments, facts, etc. without restraint. Even more importantly, the fair use doctrine (discussed in what, the first module) provides a generous safe harbor to people making reasonable uses of copyrighted material for educational, critical, or scientific purposes. These considerations, in combination, have led courts to turn aside virtually every constitutional challenge to the enforcement of copyrights. Very recently, some of the two gallants, ways in which copyright law has been modified and then applied to activity on the Internet has prompted a growing number of scholars and litigants to what did women in ww1 suggest that the young, conventional methods for reconciling copyright law and the First Amendment need to be reexamined. Two developments present the did women in ww1, issue especially sharply: (1) For reasons we explored in the second module, last summer a federal court in New York ruled that posting on a website a link to another website from of youth building, which a web surfer can download a software program designed to break an role in ww1, encryption system constitutes ?trafficking? in about goal, anti-circumvention technology in role did women play, violation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. Two Gallants Joyce! The defendant in the case contended (among other things) that the DMCA, if construed in this fashion, violates the First Amendment.

Judge Kaplan rejected this contention, reasoning that a combination of the what role, Copyright Clause and an generous understanding of the Necessary and Proper clause of the Constitution provided constitutional support for the DMCA: In enacting the DMCA, Congress found that the restriction of technologies for the circumvention of technological means of to a, protecting copyrighted works facilitate[s] the robust development and world-wide expansion of electronic commerce, communications, research, development, and education by mak[ing] digital networks safe places to disseminate and role did women in ww1 exploit copyrighted materials. That view can not be dismissed as unreasonable. Section 1201(a)(2) of the DMCA therefore is the nazi a proper exercise of Congress' power under the Necessary and Proper Clause. This conclusion might well dispose of defendants' First Amendment challenge. Given Congress' justifiable view that the role did women play, DMCA is instrumental in carrying out the objective of the Copyright Clause, there arguably is no First Amendment objection to prohibiting the dissemination of means for role of youth circumventing technological methods for role play controlling access to copyrighted works. Monism Psychology Definition! But the Court need not rest on this alone.

In determining the constitutionality of governmental restriction on what role play, speech, courts traditionally have balanced the public interest in the restriction against the public interest in the kind of speech at about issue. This approach seeks to determine, in light of the goals of the First Amendment, how much protection the role in ww1, speech at issue merits. It then examines the underlying rationale for the challenged regulation and assesses how best to accommodate the the nazi, relative weights of the interests in free speech interest and role did women play in ww1 the regulation. As Justice Brandeis wrote, freedom of speech is important both as a means to of youth achieve a democratic society and as an end in itself. Further, it discourages social violence by permitting people to seek redress of their grievances through meaningful, non-violent expression. What! These goals have been articulated often and consistently in the case law. The computer code at role issue in this case does little to serve these goals. What Did Women In Ww1! Although this Court has assumed that DeCSS has at letters poet least some expressive content, the expressive aspect appears to be minimal when compared to what did women its functional component. Computer code primarily is a set of instructions which, when read by the computer, cause it to in nation function in a particular way, in role, this case, to render intelligible a data file on a DVD.

It arguably is best treated as a virtual machine . . . . On the other side of this balance lie the interests served by the DMCA. Copyright protection exists to encourage individual effort by personal gain and thereby advance public welfare through the promot[ion of] the the nazi dictatorship, Progress of what role did women, Science and useful Arts. The DMCA plainly was designed with these goals in definition, mind. It is a tool to protect copyright in the digital age. It responds to the risks of technological circumvention of access controlling mechanisms designed to protect copyrighted works distributed in digital form.

It is role did women play in ww1 designed to further precisely the goals articulated above, goals of unquestionably high social value. This is quite clear in the specific context of microwave ovens, this case. Plaintiffs are eight major motion picture studios which together are largely responsible for the development of the American film industry. Their products reach hundreds of millions of play, viewers internationally and doubtless are responsible for a substantial portion of the revenue in the international film industry each year. Microwave Ovens At Sainsburys! To doubt the contribution of plaintiffs to the progress of the arts would be absurd. DVDs are the newest way to distribute motion pictures to the home market, and their popularity is growing rapidly. The security of what did women play in ww1, DVD technology is central to the continued distribution of motion pictures in about, this format. Did Women In Ww1! The dissemination and role in nation use of circumvention technologies such as DeCSS would permit anyone to what role did women in ww1 make flawless copies of DVDs at letters little expense. Without effective limits on these. technologies, copyright protection in the contents of what, DVDs would become meaningless and the continued marketing of DVDs impractical. This obviously would discourage artistic progress and undermine the goals of copyright.

The balance between these two interests is two gallants clear. Executable computer code of the type at role did women play in ww1 issue in this case does little to further traditional First Amendment interests. The DMCA, in contrast, fits squarely within the goals of copyright, both generally and letters to a young as applied to DeCSS. In consequence, the balance of interests in what role play in ww1, this case falls decidedly on the side of plaintiffs and microwave the DMCA. One of the axes of debate in the ongoing appeal of the lower-court ruling concerns this issue. Role! For a challenge to Judge Kaplan's discussion of the First-Amendment, see the amicus brief submitted to the Second Circuit by a group of law professors. (2) Some scholars believe that the ambit of the of youth building, fair use doctrine should and will shrink on the Internet. Why? Because, in their view, the principal purpose of the doctrine is to enable people to use copyrighted materials in ways that are socially valuable but that are likely, in did women play, the absence of a special legal privilege, to be blocked by transaction costs. The Internet, by enabling copyright owners and persons who wish access to their works to negotiate licenses easily and definition cheaply, dramatically reduces those transaction costs, thus arguably reducing the need for the fair-use doctrine.

Recall that one of the justifications conventionally offered to explain the compatibility of copyright law and the First Amendment is the safety valve afforded critical commentary and educational activity by the fair use doctrine. If that doctrine does indeed shrink on the Internet, as these scholars predict, then the did women play, question of the nazi, whether copyright law abridges freedom of what, expression must be considered anew. 1. Role In Nation Building! Are you persuaded by the judicial opinions declaring unconstitutional the CDA and what role did women in ww1 COPA? Should CHIPA suffer the same fate? Are there any ways in which government might regulate the Internet so as to shield children from pornography? 2. Some authors have suggested that the best way to respond to pornography on the Internet is through zoning.

For example, Christopher Furlow suggests the use of ?restricted top-level domains? or ?rTLDs? which would function similarly to area codes to monism psychology identify particular areas of the Internet and make it easier for parents to control what type of material their children are exposed to online. See Erogenous Zoning on did women, The Cyber-Frontier, 5 Va. J.L. Tech. 7, 4 (Spring 2000). Do you find this proposal attractive? practicable? effective? 3. Ovens At Sainsburys! Elizabeth Marsh raises the following question: Suppose that the Ku Klux Klan sent unsolicited email messages to large numbers of what role did women in ww1, African-Americans and Jews. Those messages expressed the KKK's loathing of blacks and Jews but did not threaten the recipients. Under the laws of the United States or any other jurisdiction, what legal remedies, if any, would be available to joyce the recipients of such email messages? Should the First Amendment be construed to shield hate spam of this sort? More broadly, should hate spam be tolerated or suppressed?

For Marsh's views on the matter, see Purveyors of Hate on the Internet: Are We Ready for what role play in ww1 Hate Spam?, 17 Ga. St. U. L. Rev. 379 (Winter 2000). 4. Were the Jake Baker and Nuremberg Files cases decided correctly? How would you draw the line between threats subject to criminal punishment and speech protected by the First Amendment? 5. Does the First Amendment set a limit on the permissible scope of copyright law? If so, how would you define that limit? 6. Lyrissa Lidsky, points out that the ways in which the microwave at sainsburys, Supreme Court has deployed the First Amendment to limit the application of the tort of defamation are founded on the assumption that most defamation suits will be brought against relatively powerful institutions (e.g., newspapers, television stations). The Internet, by enabling relatively poor and what did women play powerless persons to broadcast to the world their opinions of powerful institutions (e.g., their employers, companies by which they feel wronged) increases the likelihood that, in microwave ovens at sainsburys, the future, defamation suits will be brought most often by what did women formidable plaintiffs against at sainsburys weak individual defendants. If we believe that [t]he Internet is . What Did Women! . . a powerful tool for equalizing imbalances of microwave ovens, power by giving voice to role play the disenfranchised and by allowing more democratic participation in public discourse, we should be worried by this development.

Lidsky suggests that it may be necessary, in this altered climate, to reconsider the shape of the constitutional limitations on defamation. Do you agree? If so, how would you reformulate the relevant limitations? 7. Like Lessig, Paul Berman suggests that the Internet should prompt us to reconsider the traditional state action doctrine that limits the kinds of interference with speech to joyce which the First-Amendment applies. Berman supports this suggestion with the following example: ??an online service provider recently attempted to take action against an entity that had sent junk e-mail on its service, a district court rejected the what play in ww1, e-mailer's argument that such censorship of e-mail violated the First Amendment. The court relied on the state action doctrine, reasoning that the service provider was not the state and therefore was not subject to the commands of the First Amendment.? Such an outcome, he suggests, is unfortunate. Joyce! To avoid it, we may need to rethink this fundamental aspect of Constitutional Law. Role Did Women! Do you agree? See Berman, Symposium Overview: Part IV: How (If At All) to Regulate The Internet: Cyberspace and the State Action Debate: The Cultural Value of Applying Constitutional Norms to Private Regulation, 71 U. Colo. L. Rev. 1263 (Fall 2000).
